Rossnowlagh parade

The Rossnowlagh parade is a significant annual cultural event for the Orange Order, traditionally held in County Donegal on the weekend preceding the main Twelfth of July celebrations in Northern Ireland. It is widely regarded as one of the most picturesque parades in the country, set against the backdrop of the Atlantic coastline and the rolling hills of Donegal. The 2026 procession is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and typically attracts thousands of participants and spectators from both sides of the Irish border.

The procession officially begins at 12:30 PM at St John’s Parish Church, involving lodges from Donegal, Cavan, Leitrim, and Monaghan, as well as visitors from further afield. Participants are accompanied by a variety of marching bands, including flute, pipe, brass, and accordion ensembles. The parade reaches the demonstration field around 1:00 PM, where platform proceedings and a religious service conducted by local clergy take place at 3:00 PM, followed by a return parade at 4:45 PM.

Beyond the formal march, the event maintains a family-friendly atmosphere described by organizers as having a carnival-like feel. Food and souvenir stalls are situated throughout the demonstration area, with refreshments served from early morning at the Rossnowlagh Old School. The parade is notable for being the only major Orange Order demonstration held within the Republic of Ireland, serving as a point of connection for the community through shared heritage and tradition.
