Earth Festival 2026

Hosted at Judah Square, home to the largest Rastafarian community in South Africa, the Earth Festival is an annual 10-day event that has been observed since 1993. The 2026 edition continues this tradition of celebrating faith, unity, and heritage, attracting both local practitioners and international visitors to the Knysna region.

The festival's spiritual core revolves around seven days of Nyahbinghi services, which include sacred chants, prayer, Bible readings, and drumming. A pivotal moment occurs on July 23 to mark the birthday of Emperor Haile Selassie I. The event traditionally opens with the ceremonial lighting of a sacred fire, symbolizing spiritual continuity and collective awareness.

In addition to its religious roots, the 2026 program emphasizes nature conservation and healthy living. Activities focus on addressing biodiversity challenges and pollution, offering education on sustainable practices such as regenerative food production, recycling, and water-wise sanitation. This dual focus highlights the community's commitment to both spiritual devotion and environmental stewardship.
