SWLA Hot Sauce Festival

The inaugural SWLA Hot Sauce Festival is set to bring a day of heat to Southwest Louisiana on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Hosted at the West Cal Arena and Events Center, located at 401 Arena Road in Sulphur, the festival will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event was conceived by organizer Billy Lucas, who aimed to establish a hot sauce festival in Louisiana, recognizing the region's strong connection to hot sauce culture. Attendees can explore offerings from 60 vendors, featuring homemade sauces, salsa, seasonings, and a variety of handmade goods like jewelry and engraved cutting boards. Throughout the day, DJ Leauxlife will provide entertainment while guests enjoy free food samples, including tacos, pizza, and corndogs, along with nonalcoholic beverages.

Public activities include an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. with opening remarks, a torch lighting, and a hot sauce shot. Contests kick off with a cornhole tournament at 10:30 a.m., followed by a kid's gummy worm challenge. Later in the afternoon, there will be a chili pepper eating contest at 3 p.m., an adult hot sauce chugging challenge at 4 p.m., and a taco-eating contest for teenagers at 5 p.m. Guests can also vote for the People's Choice Award via QR codes at vendor booths, with the winner announced at 6:30 p.m. The organizer has expressed hopes to shift the festival to May in future years to coincide with crawfish season and offer cooler weather.
