Chicago Pride Parade

The 2026 Chicago Pride Parade marked the 55th anniversary of the city's celebration of LGBTQ+ advocacy and identity. This year's theme, 'Free to Be Proud,' served as a tribute to historical advocates and a declaration of the ongoing pursuit of visibility and justice. The event featured approximately 155 marching contingents and 15,000 participants, including floats, community organizations, and local leaders such as Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson. Grand Marshals for the 55th edition included journalist Tracy Baim, civil rights activist Mona Noriega, and philanthropy executive Evette Cardona.

The two-mile procession stepped off at 11 a.m. from the intersection of West Sheridan Road and Broadway. The route proceeded south along Broadway and Halsted Street, turned east onto Belmont Avenue, and then continued south on Broadway before finishing at Diversey Parkway and Cannon Drive. Designated public viewing areas were established along the route, which winds through the heart of Chicago's historic LGBTQ+ districts.

Organizers and city officials implemented significant safety measures due to a forecasted heat wave, providing cooling buses and hydration resources for both participants and spectators. Attendees were strongly encouraged to use public transportation, specifically the CTA Red and Brown Lines, to navigate extensive street closures and heavy crowding in the surrounding neighborhoods. The parade remains one of the largest civic events in the United States, commemorating over half a century of progress since Chicago's first Gay Liberation March.
