Organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Cappadocia Balloon Festival brings together pilots from countries including the US, Brazil, France, and the UK. The event showcases 30 figurative balloons—such as an octopus, rocket, and heart—alongside the region's 156 daily commercial balloons. A primary highlight for 2026 is the debut of a whale-shaped balloon, which was manufactured based on a winning entry from a student design competition.

Each morning, the balloons ascend over the valleys of Göreme and Nevşehir at sunrise, providing a dense aerial display against the backdrop of ancient rock formations. The evening program transitions to the Paşabağ Open-Air Museum for 'balloon glow' sessions, where the special-shaped crafts are tethered and illuminated. The 2026 edition also incorporated a cycling awareness initiative near the festival grounds to highlight local recreational infrastructure.
