Kaikōura Hop

The celebration typically begins mid-week with the Rest Home Run, a community-focused activity where participants bring classic vehicles to the local hospital to interact with residents. As the event progresses into the weekend, the town hosts a significant Friday night parade where decorated vehicles cruise through the streets for public viewing, creating a festive atmosphere for locals and visitors.

Throughout the festival, approximately 800 cars are displayed, representing various eras and styles including American muscle cars, vintage pickup trucks, and unique caravans. The event is noted for its multi-generational appeal, with families often participating together. Activities include car and caravan awards and social gatherings held at local venues like Donegal House and the Pier Hotel, where enthusiasts share their passion for vehicle restoration and motoring history.
