The festival offers a rich array of traditional and contemporary Indian performances across multiple stages in central Auckland. Attendees can explore a diverse selection of vegetarian Indian street food, sweets, and various stalls selling Indian arts, crafts, fashion, jewellery, and henna. The event joyfully honors Diwali, also known as Deepavali, and its message of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Beyond the main festival grounds, celebrations extend to various venues and public spaces, including exhibitions at the Central City Library, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, and Auckland War Memorial Museum. The festival also features a "Chalk It Up" Rangoli Competition, yoga and meditation sessions, and a dedicated 'Living Arts Chillout Space' at Aotea Centre, offering culturally focused workshops and a calm environment.

Iconic city landmarks, such as the Sky Tower, Auckland Art Gallery, and Auckland War Memorial Museum, will be illuminated in fuchsia for Diwali, with lighting displays also adorning Queen Street, Te Ara I Whiti (Lightpath), and the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The festival also includes an expanded program of cultural activities, such as a free Indian Cinema Showcase and a classical music concert. For 2026, the new City Rail Link's Te Waihorotiu Station offers direct access to the heart of the celebrations, enhancing convenience for festival-goers.
