Kuching Festival

The Kuching Festival, an annual civic celebration orchestrated by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), takes place in Kuching, Sarawak, from August 8 to August 16, 2026. This multi-day event is designed to enhance community spirit and encourage social interaction through diverse public activities, including culinary fairs, recreational contests, and cultural displays.

A significant highlight of the festival is the fishing contest, which, by its third edition, has grown into a popular family and community affair, attracting 150 participants. This competition, held on August 8, offers cash prizes and trophies, reflecting MBKS's focus on creating people-centric urban policies that prioritize family bonding and the social well-being of the city's residents.

The festival also hosts the Kuching Food Festival, which includes the UCCN Gastronomy Pavilion. During the 2026 event, the gastronomy pavilion experienced a temporary two-day closure on August 15 and 16 due to wind damage from heavy rain; however, the wider Kuching Festival Fair and other vendor stalls remained operational. While this event record specifically covers activities from August 8-16, the overall Kuching Festival 2026 was reported to have run for 26 days from July 22 and successfully drew over one million visitors to Kuching, despite facing periods of haze.
