Sarawak Governor’s 80th Birthday Celebration

The celebration honoring Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar's 80th birthday takes place on October 10 at Padang Merdeka in central Kuching. Public activities for the day include a parade, a mass rally ceremony, and a People’s Concert.

To ensure the smooth running of the event, several roads in central Kuching will experience temporary closures from 7 AM to noon on October 10. These include sections of Lebuh Temple to Lebuh Wayang (Wisma Pelita), Jalan Main Bazaar to Lebuh Temple, Lebuh Wayang to Jalan Main Bazaar, and Jalan Gambier to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.

Preparations for the celebration will also involve road closures. Jalan McDougall will be temporarily closed from 10 AM on September 28 through midnight on October 10 for installation and logistical work. Rehearsals are scheduled from October 5 to 7, between 7 AM and 11 AM, on roads such as Jalan McDougall, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Jalan Wawasan. A full rehearsal will occur on October 8 during the same morning hours. The public is advised to plan journeys using alternative routes and avoid parking on road shoulders.
