Sewa Diwas Lamp Lighting Ceremony

The Sewa Diwas Lamp Lighting Ceremony is an event organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. Held on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, the day is celebrated as ‘Sewa Diwas’ and features the ceremonial lighting of 1.25 lakh earthen lamps, or diyas, in the evening.

The ceremony typically attracts a significant number of participants and dignitaries. Attendees have included figures such as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra, and NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal, along with other state BJP functionaries and leaders. Around 5,000 individuals participate, including beneficiaries of Central Government Schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and PM SVANidhi, as well as NDMC employees, students, and teachers.

The mass lighting of diyas at Vijay Chowk is presented as a symbol of service, dedication, and the spirit of nation-building. The objective of the program is to convey messages of service, dedication, public participation, and nation-building through the symbolic lighting of these lamps. Additionally, various messages and patterns representing the welfare schemes are created using the arrangement of the diyas.
