Dublin Festival of History

The fourteenth annual Dublin Festival of History is scheduled to run from September 26th to October 11th, 2026, offering a wide array of talks, debates, and panel discussions. The festival opens with "The Big Weekend" on September 26th and 27th, featuring events at locations such as Central Library, Richmond Barracks, and the Mansion House, covering subjects like Dublin's football clubs, public art (including the Anna Livia and Molly Malone statues), and significant historical figures.

Key centenaries, such as the founding of Fianna Fáil in 1926 and the 1926 Census of the Irish Free State, will be explored through dedicated sessions. The festival also includes a "European History Day" on October 11th at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, delving into figures like Cicero and Roger Casement, and conflicts such as the Spanish Civil War. Special interest events include an illustrated talk on the history and archives of The Honorable Society of King’s Inns on September 28th, and tours of Nellie Molloy's preserved flat at the Iveagh Trust.

In collaboration with over 90 cultural and community partners, the festival provides opportunities for all ages, with Irish-language content and workshops for children and young people. While the majority of events are free, some specialized talks, such as those at King's Inns, may require advance booking due to limited capacity.
