This grassroots initiative addresses the seasonal challenge of backyard fruit attracting bears into residential areas during hyperphagia, a period when they forage extensively before hibernation. By removing fruit from trees—particularly those belonging to seniors who may struggle with maintenance—the project helps prevent dangerous human-wildlife encounters while fostering community resilience and self-sufficiency.

The program is scheduled in two distinct phases. On September 23 and 24, volunteers meet to harvest fruit from local properties between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. A follow-up canning session is held on September 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where participants learn to preserve the gathered harvest. Due to the nature of the event, specific meeting locations are shared with participants only after they have completed their registration.
