2026 Eskom Expo International Science Fair

The 2026 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair (ISF) brings together 316 young scientists from 35 Eskom Expo regions across South Africa, joined by 24 international participants from eleven countries including Brazil, India, Ireland, Russia, Lesotho, Namibia, China, Türkiye, Tunisia, Mozambique, and Ghana. The event takes place at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from September 29 to October 2, 2026, with participants attending both in person and virtually.

Finalists present research projects across 13 categories, exploring issues relevant to learners and their communities. Research areas include health and wellbeing, academic performance, and applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for purposes like disease diagnosis and solutions for people with disabilities. The expo aims to foster research, problem-solving, and communication skills, while creating pathways for young people to engage with STEMI (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Innovation) opportunities.

The ISF offers various prizes and opportunities, such as bursaries, cash prizes, laptops, and tablets. Notable awards include two higher education bursaries from Siemens Energy, valued at approximately R1.35 million over four years. Additionally, a new Mentor Award winner will join the Eskom Expo delegation for the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition in March 2027.

The public is invited to meet the young scientists and view their projects during a dedicated public viewing session on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
