Vėra: Between Reality and the Frame | Exhibition

The exhibition, "Vėra: Between Reality and the Frame," delves into the photographic contributions of Veronika Šleivytė (1906–1998), a distinguished graphic artist, painter, photographer, and educator from the interwar period. Šleivytė, known for signing postcards with "– Yours, Vėra," used photography, including self-portraits, to share aspects of her daily life and a unique world of her own creation with her loved ones.

The exhibition invites visitors to reconsider interwar everyday life and photography, highlighting Šleivytė’s distinctive approach where she directed and participated in scenes, blurring the lines between reality and artifice. Viewers are encouraged to explore the nuanced space between perceived reality and the photographic frame itself.

The exhibition opens on 25 September at 6 pm and will remain on view until 22 November. It can be visited during the Vilnius City Museum's regular opening hours with a valid admission ticket, though entry is free on the opening day. Ema Riniūtė is the curator, with graphic design by Laura Kasparavičė. The visual elements of the exhibition feature a self-portrait by Šleivytė, taken in Kaunas in 1935, from the Kupiškis Museum's collection.
