The Breath of Time in Folk Art

This exhibition, a collaboration between the cultural ministries of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, and national museums from both countries, offers a comprehensive insight into Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage. It highlights the centuries-old traditions of folk art and their historical development, with a special focus on the legacy of Latif Karimov, the founder of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.

The display draws from the collection of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, featuring artistic works from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visitors can explore a diverse array of carpets, including pile types like "Pirabedil" and "Khanlig," alongside flat-woven varieties such as kilims and verni, representing regions like Quba, Baku, and Karabakh. A dedicated section showcases original designs by Karimov, including the "Second Spring" and "Khatai" carpets.

Beyond textiles, the exhibition presents other forms of Azerbaijani craftsmanship, including traditional women's clothing, intricate jewelry, decorative metalwork, and artistic embroidery. The program also includes a roundtable discussion on Latif Karimov's significant contributions to folk art and scholarship, and its opening ceremony featured a performance by the Otyrar Sazy Orchestra.
