Rikugien Garden, an Edo-period (1603-1868) Japanese landscape garden located in northern Tokyo, hosts a special nighttime illumination event to highlight its autumn foliage. During the event, the garden, which typically closes at 5 p.m., reopens from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with last entry at 7:30 p.m.

The event features illuminations and other decorations throughout the grounds, focusing on the autumn leaves and small islands in the pond. New for this year is a projection mapping attraction located in the bamboo grove near the former storehouse. Visitors can find special photo spots designed for commemorating their visit.

Throughout the event, attendees can enjoy matcha and wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) at teahouses like Fukiage Chaya and Shinsentei. For those seeking more sustenance, food stalls and food trucks will be available near the Ginkatei site. Admission is 1,000 yen for advance online tickets or 1,200 yen for day-of tickets, which can be purchased online or in-person with cash; children in elementary school and younger are admitted for free.
