The Kumbiavík Festival 2026 begins on Thursday, October 8, with the "Emergencia Tropical" cultural exhibition at RVK Brewing Co. / Tónabíó. This exhibition explores the history and development of cumbia, featuring fanzines, record artwork, and photography, alongside musical curation tracing African and Afro-diasporic music. Admission for the opening is free.

On Friday, October 9, Bíó Paradís will host the Iceland premieres of three documentaries about cumbia and sonidero culture. Filmmaker Space Primo will present the films and engage in a post-screening discussion, followed by vinyl DJ sets by MRREED from Germany and Space Primo from Los Angeles.

The festival concludes on Saturday, October 10, at RVK Brewing Co. / Tónabíó with family and community activities, including Mexican bingo, cultural activities, food, and a traditional Colombian cumbia dance performance by Colombia Boreal. The evening program includes a salsa class led by Salsa Social and social dance, live performances by Los Bomboneros and La Dimensión with special guest Superzona, and DJ selections from chucuXchucu and Kumbiavík Collective, with Sonido Fin closing the festival. Admission for Friday and Saturday evening programs is 3,500 ISK each, and the festival is open to all ages, with children requiring adult accompaniment.
