Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra

The Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is a profoundly significant annual Hindu religious observance celebrated in Puri, Odisha, India. The most auspicious time for witnessing the chariot pulling is estimated between 5:33 AM and 12:00 PM on this day. The deities reside at the Gundicha Temple for several days before embarking on their return journey, known as Bahuda Yatra. While some sources mention the main event spanning nine days, the overall festival, including the return, is designated to conclude on July 27, 2026.

Extensive security arrangements are put in place to manage the massive crowds. The Puri district administration declares a 5-kilometer 'No-Flying Zone' for drones around the holy town from July 16 to July 27 to prevent potential security threats and manage the gathering. The Odisha Police deploy thousands of security personnel, supported by AI-enabled surveillance systems, CCTV cameras, anti-drone technology, and quick response teams. Additionally, the Indian Coast Guard and Navy remain on alert. Traffic management plans are also implemented, and a sand sculpture is often created at Puri Beach by renowned artists to mark the occasion.
