West Cork Chamber Music Festival

Taking place in the scenic town of Bantry, this 10-day festival is a major highlight of the Irish classical music calendar. Artistic director Francis Humphrys curates a program that blends familiar masterpieces with rarely heard works and challenging contemporary repertoire. Performances are held in various local venues, most notably the library at Bantry House, known for its exceptional acoustics and views of Bantry Bay, as well as St Brendan’s Church and Marino Church.

The festival emphasizes both professional excellence and community engagement. Beyond the main concert series, it includes morning Coffee Concerts, a dedicated children's program, and an extensive free fringe program featuring workshops throughout the West Cork area. The atmosphere is noted for being refreshingly informal, encouraging newcomers to experience the genre in a welcoming environment.

A significant component of the event is its focus on developing future talent. The festival hosts an intensive masterclass program for elite student groups from Ireland and the UK, who rehearse with visiting stars. This culminates in the Young Musicians’ Platform, a three-hour showcase on the final day, highlighting the festival's role in supporting the next generation of chamber musicians.
