Mayo Mayhem 2026

Mayo Mayhem 2026 marks the ninth year of Ireland’s flagship wave windsurfing competition, drawing top domestic and international athletes to the Atlantic coast. Held in either Achill Island or Belmullet depending on weather conditions, the event is recognized as a 3-Star World Wave Tour and Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) ranking stop. To ensure the best possible wind and wave conditions, the competition operates on a forecast-based schedule with a primary window in late September and a rollover period in early October.

The 2026 edition introduces a dedicated Under-18 fleet with free entry to support youth participation in the sport. Competition is structured across Pro, Pro-Am, Women’s, and Junior divisions, with each fleet limited to 24 riders to maximize water time. The event caters to a wide range of skill levels, from experienced world tour sailors to those just beginning to jump and gybe, with seasoned mentors available to guide newcomers.

Beyond the core competition, Mayo Mayhem emphasizes a community atmosphere for spectators and recreational sailors. Participants receive rescue cover, refreshments, and access to evening entertainment. If the event is staged at Achill Island, it coincides with the Battle for the Lake Festival, further expanding the social and cultural activities available to attendees.
