Tamarack Festival

The Tamarack Festival annually brings a diverse program of northern theatre, poetry, art, and education to Timmins, Ontario. Scheduled for September 24 and 25, the festival provides a platform for various artistic expressions and educational initiatives.

A key highlight of the festival is the debut of an Indigenous play, created by a writer, producer, and actor from Mattagami First Nation. This production aims to create a safe space for performing arts while fostering understanding of Indigenous issues through kindness and humor, encouraging constructive conversations and positive social change regarding traditional territory matters.

Hosted at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre, the festival also features "The Short Play Buffet," an evening dedicated to one-act plays produced by northern Ontario theatre creators. Participating groups include the Sault Indie Theatre Collective, presenting pieces like "La Nonna è Qui" and "Between Heartbeats," and Thunder Bay's New Noise Productions, with works such as "Slash/ers Anony\mous" and "A Man Dies by the Gun." Free refreshments and artist presentations are also part of the event.
