Montreal Jazz Festival

The Montreal Jazz Festival, held in the heart of Montréal, Quebec, is one of the world's largest jazz gatherings, known for its extensive program of free outdoor concerts. The festival's primary hub is the Place des Festivals, which serves as a massive open-air venue for major international and local acts.

On a Saturday night in late June 2026, the festival featured a significant performance by the Quebec-based band Angine de Poitrine. The group, known for wearing masks and polka-dot costumes, attracted a crowd so large that organizers compared the turnout to the record-breaking 2009 performance by Stevie Wonder. Due to the high volume of attendees, security officials were forced to close access to the Place des Festivals approximately 30 to 45 minutes before the show began to maintain site control.

While the concert was celebrated as a major success for local music, the density of the audience resulted in several medical incidents. Emergency services treated ten people for various issues, including falls, intoxication, and heat-related dizziness, with six individuals transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening conditions. Despite the crowding, festival organizers and Urgences-santé officials stated that the event proceeded according to their predetermined safety and security plans.
