INK-Kasi Xperience Tourism Awareness Month Tour

Organized by KASLAM Events in partnership with the Durban Tourism Directorate, the INK-Kasi Xperience Tourism Awareness Month Tour aimed to immerse more than 200 students from various educational institutions, including Elangeni TVET College and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in the rich heritage and cultural experiences of the INK (Inanda, Ntuzuma, and KwaMashu) communities.

Participants embarked on a tourism and heritage journey from KwaMashu through to Inanda, visiting significant historical sites. These included the Gandhi Settlement, EkuPhakameni, Inanda Seminary, heritage sites associated with Dr Pixley ka-Isaka Seme and Bertha Mkhize, the Inanda Old Post Office, and Ohlange Institute. The program provided an opportunity for students to learn about the history, people, and stories that have shaped these communities and contributed to South Africa's broader heritage.

The initiative encouraged young people to discover local tourism opportunities, appreciate their own city's attractions, and consider careers and businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector, such as tour guiding, events, and cultural tourism. It also sought to challenge misconceptions about the INK communities by showcasing positive local stories and experiences.

This Tourism Awareness Month tour is intended as an annual initiative and is part of the broader INK-Kasi Xperience, which culminates in a main event scheduled for December 19, 2026, at Princess Magogo Stadium.
