Soweto Kota Festival

Now in its ninth year, the festival serves as a significant platform for local vendors and entrepreneurs, often called "kotapreneurs," to showcase unique variations of the traditional quarter-loaf sandwich. The 2026 edition features over 50 different kota stalls alongside brand activations from partners like Aromat and Renault. The event typically attracts around 15,000 visitors, contributing to the local economy by providing temporary employment to dozens of unemployed youth from the surrounding area.

In addition to the diverse food offerings, the festival host a variety of entertainment options including a VIP marquee, jumping castles, face painting, and digital games for children. The music lineup features popular South African artists and DJs such as Lamiez Holworthy and Kitchen Mess. While the 2026 event was originally scheduled for September 5–6, it was postponed to September 12–13 due to inclement weather conditions.

Practical amenities at the venue include cardless payment options and the ability for attendees to bring empty cooler boxes for beverages purchased on-site. Tickets are available through major retailers and online platforms, with discounted family packages offered to encourage community participation.
