SPAR Women’s Challenge

The 2026 SPAR Women’s Challenge is a significant mass-participation event scheduled for September 26 in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, South Africa. This popular event invites women of all fitness levels to participate in either a 5km or 10km race, catering to walkers, casual runners, and elite athletes. For the first time in 2026, the challenge also includes a dedicated wheelchair race, highlighting its commitment to inclusivity. The event is held in conjunction with the SPAR Grand Prix series, which showcases top African competitors in the 10km distance.

A central and empowering aspect of the Gqeberha challenge is its partnership with the Association for the Physically Disabled (APD) in Nelson Mandela Bay. APD's clothing factory, which provides vital income-generating opportunities for people with disabilities, has been contracted to produce 6,000 race T-shirts, scrunchies, and goodie bags for the event. This initiative is one of the largest deals for APD's factory, providing meaningful economic opportunities and supporting local manufacturing.

The race merchandise, made from athlete-friendly, moisture-management fabric in a distinctive magenta color with yellow accents, carries a powerful message of ability and opportunity. This collaboration reflects SPAR Eastern Cape's commitment to local procurement, job creation, and celebrating the value of quality products made in Nelson Mandela Bay.
