NYC Pride March

Tracing its origins to the 1970 commemoration of the Stonewall rebellion, the NYC Pride March is one of the world's largest LGBTQIA+ celebrations. The parade route traverses Manhattan and passes near the Stonewall National Monument. In addition to festive floats, dancers, and marching bands, the event features prominent political figures, including the Governor of New York and the Mayor of New York City.

A significant point of contemporary discussion is the policy regarding law enforcement participation. Since 2021, organizers have maintained a rule preventing police officers from marching in official uniforms or carrying service weapons, a stance intended to honor the legacy of those who resisted police brutality at Stonewall. While members of the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) are permitted to participate as individuals, the restriction on service gear remains a subject of public debate.

The march functions as both a celebration and a call to action, often reflecting the political climate surrounding transgender rights and representation. While Heritage of Pride organizes the main march, the day often coincides with alternative gatherings such as the Queer Liberation March, which focuses on grassroots activism.
