Paint the Planet Pink

The Paint the Planet Pink series is an initiative by an all-volunteer nonprofit based in Pittston, dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. The organization has historically raised over $1 million in its first 12 years, with this year's proceeds targeted to the University of Pennsylvania. The goal for this specific event series is to raise $100,000 for general cancer research.

The event kicks off with Mass and an award presentation at the University of Scranton’s Madonna Della Strada Chapel. The Color Me Pink 5K and Fun Walk begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, at Courthouse Square in Scranton, located on Linden Street. This is followed at noon by the Gentlemen’s Dash, where community men race in high heels, often in costumes, down Linden Street while collecting donations. Online registration for the races closes Friday, but on-site registration is available.

Throughout the series until October 3, additional events are scheduled across various locations. These include a cash and purse bingo on Sunday, September 27, at St. Maria Goretti Church Banquet Hall in Laflin; a ’90s trivia night and meat raffle on Tuesday, September 29, at Sabatini’s Bottleshop in Exeter; and a guest bartender happy hour titled 'Paint the Red Mill Pink' on Saturday, October 3, at the Red Mill in Pittston.
