Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival

Now in its 16th year, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival runs from September 17 to 20, bringing an array of jazz musicians, delicious food, and outdoor activities to Downtown Pittsburgh. Organized by the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, the festival centers on the "Our America250" theme, which delves into how uniquely American musical genres like soul, rock, and R&B have amplified the legacy and stories of jazz.

Public activities during the festival week include musicians performing at the Pittsburgh International Airport and the "Jazz Train," a partnership with Amtrak bringing artists from New York City with on-board jam sessions. The main festivities begin on Friday, September 18, with a "Taste of Jazz" opening night party, featuring a variety of restaurants, visual art, and music by Anyah Nancy, Roger Humphries, and DJ Selecta.

On Saturday and Sunday, Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh will host a street festival with continuous music from noon to 9 p.m., set in front of the August Wilson Center. A highlight of the musical program is a celebration of 98-year-old jazz drumming legend Bernard Purdie, who will perform with an all-star band of Pittsburgh musicians. The festival is open to the public, inviting attendees from Pittsburgh and around the world to enjoy a vibrant celebration of jazz.
