Puppies for Parole Dog Days

The Puppies for Parole Dog Days is an annual event that showcases the progress of rescue dogs and their handlers from the Puppies for Parole program at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. The seventh iteration of this event, held on a Tuesday, features talented canines participating in various activities.

During the show, resident dog handlers lead the dogs through demonstrations, including agility courses, "puppy push-ups," and drag races. This event marks the culmination of a year's training for the dogs and residents involved in the program.

The Puppies for Parole program, which started in Missouri in 2010, takes in abandoned and stray dogs from animal shelters and provides them with obedience training. The primary goal is to rehabilitate the dogs to help them find new homes. The Dog Days event highlights the impact of this training and the bond formed between the residents and the dogs, which also aids in the residents' rehabilitation, with over 7,000 dogs adopted since the program's inception.
