Hoquiam Logger’s Playday

The Hoquiam Logger’s Playday is a lively annual heritage festival taking place in Hoquiam, Washington, known for its deep connection to the logging industry, which has been significant in the area since the 1850s. The city's name itself, Hoquiam, means "hungry for wood," reflecting this history. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, and is organized by a non-profit that supports community initiatives through scholarships and donations.

Activities commence with a traditional Logger's Breakfast, followed by the Elks Grand Parade, which features large log trucks, local participants, and vendors throughout downtown Hoquiam. Throughout the day, attendees can also enjoy the City of Hoquiam Street Fair with various vendors, a Lions Club Salmon Bake, and live music. The Jack Reynvaan 5K race has also been reintroduced to the Playday weekend program.

The highlight of the event is the main logging show held at the historic Olympic Stadium, typically starting in the evening. This spectacle showcases the skills, strength, and endurance of lumberjacks and loggers from across the region. Competitions include ax throwing, log chopping, ma and pa bucking, choker setting, speed climbing, power saw use, tree topping, double bucking, spring board chop, obstacle pole navigation, and the powerful hot saw competition. A notable event for spectators is the famed race over floating logs, where competitors test their balance.
