The "Slugs of Eureka project lecture" is a public presentation given by College of the Redwoods Professor of Art Shannon Sullivan. The lecture will introduce the history of the “Slugs of Eureka” project, which features a series of larger-than-life ceramic banana slug sculptures installed across the city.

The “Slugs of Eureka” project, created by Professor Sullivan and CR alumna Jessica Swan, consists of 16 ceramic slugs placed at 13 locations as part of the 2024 Eureka Street Art Festival. These playful sculptures have inspired community engagement through informal "slug hunts" and new ways of exploring Eureka's public spaces. The lecture is part of Sullivan's College of the Redwoods Portugal Award for Faculty Research project, which explores public art, place, and community engagement.

This lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 5 to 6 p.m. It will be held at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, in the Creative Arts Building, CA 106. All events in this series are free and open to the public.
