Supernova International Ska Festival

The Supernova International Ska Festival serves as a significant annual gathering for the global ska community, held in Hampton, Virginia. Since its inception in 2014, it has become the largest event in the United States focused entirely on the ska genre. The 2026 edition, taking place on September 12 and 13, continues its tradition of showcasing a diverse lineup that includes legendary Jamaican performers, contemporary international groups, and emerging talent.

A focal point of the festival is the continued participation of Kingston's historic Alpha School of Music. For the fifth consecutive year, students and staff from the institution will travel to Virginia to perform and gain professional industry experience. The 2026 lineup includes two-time Grammy nominee Yellowman, an Alpha alumnus, who is scheduled to perform on the second day of the event.

Beyond the main stage performances, the festival incorporates educational and charitable components. Approximately 30 bands are expected to perform, representing various eras and interpretations of the genre. Activities often include networking opportunities for young musicians to learn about event production and promotion. Additionally, the festival hosts charity events, such as a performance by New York band The Slackers, to support music education initiatives in Jamaica.
