Bud Billiken Parade 2026

The Bud Billiken Parade 2026, the 97th annual edition, is set to take place in Chicago on Saturday, August 8. This historic event is a cherished back-to-school tradition and a major celebration of African American life, Black culture, and community in the United States. It draws hundreds of thousands of spectators and generations of families to witness the procession.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at the intersection of 39th Street and South King Drive in Bronzeville, marching south along an almost 3-mile route to Washington Park. Participants include a variety of performers such as marching bands, dance and drill teams, tumblers, and cheerleaders, alongside floats and classic cars. Actress and South Side native LisaRaye McCoy is slated to serve as the grand marshal.

Following the parade, Washington Park becomes a hub for community festivities. Attendees can enjoy entertainment, free haircuts and hair braiding, health checks for adults and children, and various giveaways, including thousands of school supplies. Founded in 1929 by Chicago Defender publisher Robert S. Abbott, the Bud Billiken Parade has grown to become the largest African American parade in the country, fostering community support and showcasing youth talent.
