64th New York Film Festival

The 64th edition of the New York Film Festival presents a diverse program of global cinema, highlighting urgent modern issues such as democratic erosion, migration, and class inequality. The festival’s Main Slate includes high-profile premieres from established auteurs and emerging voices alike. James Gray’s 'Paper Tiger', a 1980s-set crime drama starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, serves as the opening night selection. The centerpiece of the festival is the world premiere of Tony Gilroy’s 'Behemoth!', featuring Pedro Pascal as a cellist navigating a career transition in a non-linear narrative underscored by a prominent musical score.

A significant addition to this year's programming is the launch of 'NYFF Encounters', a commissioning initiative where directors create short films during the festival for premiere at the following year's edition. The inaugural work in this program is Kleber Mendonça Filho’s 'South of Tehran', a documentary short featuring conversations with Jafar Panahi. The festival closes with Ava DuVernay’s '14th', a documentary exploring the legal and social impacts of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, following her previous acclaimed work '13th'.

The international lineup includes new works from celebrated directors such as Mike Leigh, Pedro Almodóvar, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, and Mani Haghighi. Film at Lincoln Center manages the event, which remains a primary benchmark for the North American film industry, blending major studio releases with independent and experimental cinema from around the world.
