Organized by the family of Justin McIntire in partnership with the AKV Back The Blue organization, the Chief’s Challenge serves as a tribute to the late Brackenridge police chief. The event was designed to celebrate McIntire’s legacy through one of his favorite pastimes, fishing, while offering a way for his family to thank the local community for their support following his passing in 2023.

Beyond the tournament itself, the day functions as a family fun day. Attendees can enjoy activities for all ages, including games and goodie bags for the first 100 children in attendance. The event also hosts an auction and showcases various local vendors. Organizers intend for the tournament to become an annual tradition to maintain the chief's memory and bring residents together.

While the fishing competition often involves pre-registration, the public can attend the general festivities by purchasing admission. Proceeds from the event are used to fund scholarships for graduating seniors from Highlands High School, continuing the chief's history of community service.
