Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic

Held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, this annual festival serves as a major summer tradition for families and ballooning enthusiasts in Northern California. The event typically begins in the early morning hours, with gates opening at 4:00 AM to accommodate a predawn display known as the 'Glow Show,' where balloon burners illuminate the colorful envelopes before the sun rises.

While the primary highlight involves scheduled balloon launches around 6:30 AM, these activities are weather-dependent and may be restricted by the local marine layer or fog. Even when full ascents are not possible, the festival often provides tethered rides and opportunities for visitors to experience the inside of a balloon or meet the pilots and their flight crews.

Beyond the balloons, the festival grounds host a variety of public entertainment including live music, food vendors, and a dedicated children’s fun zone.
