Uganda Film Festival 2026

The Uganda Film Festival 2026 operates under the theme "Transformation: The Power of Local Stories," serving as a major platform for indigenous filmmakers and actors. This 13th edition showcases a diverse range of content, including feature films, television dramas, documentaries, and animations. Public screenings are held at major cinemas across the country, including Century Cinemax branches in Kampala and venues in Entebbe, allowing audiences to engage directly with authentic homegrown productions.

Beyond entertainment, the festival emphasizes professional growth through educational initiatives like a three-day screenwriting masterclass held at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology in Nakawa. Facilitated by industry experts, these sessions address technical skills, distribution networks, and the commercial aspects of the audio-visual sector. The festival also highlights regional diversity, incorporating works from filmmakers in Soroti, Luwero, Arua, and Hoima who participated in regional competitions earlier in the year.

The event culminates on August 28 with a grand awards ceremony recognizing achievements in 29 technical categories. Leading the nominations for 2026 are productions such as "You May Kiss the Bride Goodbye," "Adui," and "Maama Wange." In addition to the technical awards decided by a professional jury, the public participates by voting for the Viewer’s Choice Award, recognizing the productions that resonate most with local audiences.
