1990 Attempted Coup Exhibition and Tours

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service presents the 1990 Attempted Coup Exhibition and Tours, a two-week event dedicated to commemorating and educating the public about one of the nation's most defining historical chapters. Taking place from July 20th to 31st at the Police Museum, located in the Old Police Headquarters in Port of Spain, this initiative provides a firsthand look at the events of the 1990 attempted coup.

The exhibition and guided tours focus on the attack on the Police Headquarters on St Vincent Street and are enriched by the experiences of officers who were present during the crisis. Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin highlighted that the display is a tribute to those who made significant sacrifices, emphasizing that the nation's democracy was secured through immense courage and dedication. It also underscores the unity within the Police Service, where Special Reserve and regular officers stood together in the face of danger.

Organized in partnership with the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, the event aims to preserve these crucial historical accounts for future generations. Museum Curator Kara Roopsingh noted the importance of showcasing what transpired within the historic 1876 building and sharing the personal experiences of the officers involved.
