Legacy of Thai Textiles & Fashion exhibition

The "Legacy of Thai Textiles & Fashion" exhibition took place on August 13, 2026, at Thara Hall on the M Floor of ICONSIAM in Bangkok. The event was organized by the Prime Minister’s Office through the Government Public Relations Department (PRD). Its core purpose was to present traditional Thai textile knowledge and craftsmanship, reinterpreting it into contemporary designs and fashion. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya presided over and viewed the exhibition, highlighting its significance.

The exhibition's concept, "Legacy: Creative Continuity & Creativity," treated heritage not as something confined to the past but as knowledge to be passed on, developed, and given contemporary meaning while retaining its original roots. It featured work from 10 model communities across Thailand, showcasing local craftsmanship and distinctive motifs and techniques rather than replacing traditional characteristics with modern design.

The project's broader goals included honoring Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's work in preserving Thai textiles, carrying forward her royal aspirations through Princess Sirivannavari’s vision, increasing the value of community products, generating more income for local artisans, and promoting Thai cultural soft power.

Attendees included Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other officials. The program also incorporated discussions among specialists, designers, entrepreneurs, academics, and fashion experts on preserving traditional knowledge, adding value to Thai textiles, and developing Thai fashion for contemporary consumers and international markets. A special fashion show, featuring models and public figures, presented contemporary fashion from the model communities, aiming to encourage younger generations to appreciate Thai textiles for a wide range of styles and occasions.
