Immersive exhibition on Rome’s Great Mosque

The "Immersive exhibition on Rome’s Great Mosque" is a world-premiere production conceived in Doha by architect David Borra of Noreal Interactive. It was inaugurated at an event hosted by the Italian Embassy in Qatar, in partnership with Qatar Museums, the Museum of Islamic Art, Sapienza University of Rome, and the Islamic Cultural Centre of Italy.

Running from September 21 to November 21, 2026, the exhibition focuses on the Great Mosque of Rome, which was officially inaugurated on June 21, 1995. Designed by renowned Italian architect Paolo Portoghesi, the mosque complex embodies a vision of architecture that fosters dialogue between the present and tradition, freely quoting Baroque masters and classic Roman architecture. Italian Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Paolo Toschi emphasized its role as a place of dialogue and community building.

The exhibition explores the mosque's architecture, which reflects both Islamic tradition and the character of Rome, expressing the Islamic Cultural Centre of Italy's deeper mission of dialogue. Dr. Abdellah Redouane, Secretary General of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Italy, highlighted the mosque's significance as a European reference point for demonstrating how a Muslim community can become stable, visible, and responsible while combining religious identity with active citizenship.
