Independence Day 2026 celebrations

The Independence Day 2026 celebrations in Karachi, themed "Long Live Pakistan Forever," commenced on August 2nd with an official inauguration by the Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi. This 14-day program, concluding on August 14th, encompasses a variety of activities aimed at fostering national unity and patriotism. Initial events include the distribution of laptops to outstanding students on August 3rd, an educational program on the Pakistan Movement for students on August 6th, and a grand mushaira (poetry recital) on August 8th. A special program for female students honoring Madar-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah is scheduled for August 10th.

The celebrations also feature dedicated observances, with National Minorities Day on August 11th and Youth Day, marked by speech and debate competitions, on August 12th. The main Independence Day ceremony is slated for the evening of August 13th at the Governor House. This is followed by national flag-hoisting ceremonies on August 14th at significant locations such as the Governor House, Mazar-e-Quaid, and other venues.

Beyond Karachi's core festivities, the Sindh Basketball Association (SBBA) extends Independence Day celebrations across the province with a series of basketball activities. Exhibition matches for girls' and boys' teams are scheduled for Karachi on August 13th, followed by Sukkur on August 21st at IBA Public School, and concluding in Larkana on August 29th at Khuhro Complex. These events prolong the festive spirit beyond the primary 14-day program.
