Dhofar International Theatre Festival

Set in Salalah, Oman, the Dhofar International Theatre Festival runs from September 14 to 22, 2026, presenting its second edition. This cultural event is organized by Dhofar Municipality with the aim of boosting the region's cultural profile and fostering artistic exchange. The festival is structured around three distinct competitive segments, collectively offering a prize purse of US$150,000.

The competition includes the "Elite Shows" segment, showcasing award-winning productions from international festivals and notable performances from the previous year. The "Grand Shows" segment welcomes theatre groups from across the globe, with entries evaluated by a specialized jury. Additionally, the "Dhofar Theatre" segment is dedicated to local Omani troupes, providing a platform to develop their craft and reach wider audiences. Participants are expected from various cities within Oman and from GCC states such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, alongside other international talents.

Beyond the performances, the festival is considered a strategic cultural initiative by Oman, reflecting its commitment to using the arts as a bridge connecting different cultures. Performances take place at multiple venues in Salalah, including the Obar Theatre and the Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Entertainment Complex Theatre. It is a key component of the extensive Khareef Dhofar 2026 season, which encompasses over 100 cultural, artistic, and sports events throughout September, including the Dhofar Film Festival and the region's first international sculpture festival.
