Aga Khan Award for Architecture Exhibition

The Aga Khan Award for Architecture Exhibition returned to New Zealand, hosted in Auckland on September 11, 2026. The exhibition presented the seven winning projects from the Award's 16th Cycle (2023-2025), which were announced in Bishkek in September 2025 and originate from various countries including Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, and China. These projects highlighted themes such as climate resilience, cultural continuity, and community development.

This event signified the beginning of a partnership between Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and the His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Australia and New Zealand. The collaboration aims to provide a platform for academic knowledge and lived community experience to meet. Initiatives stemming from this partnership included an exhibition of AUT student work at the Auckland Ismaili Community Centre and a program where Auckland Ismaili youth imagined ways to improve their neighbourhoods to make them more liveable.

The official Auckland celebration, held on September 11, 2026, gathered community members, academics, students, and leaders from various sectors. Indian High Commissioner Muanpuii Saiawi attended as the Chief Guest. The event also featured Farrokh Derakhshani, Director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, who participated in a panel discussion exploring the relationship between architecture, community, and place.
