  • Centenary milestone for the University of Otago School of Music
  • Performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with local faculty soloists
  • Inclusion of 'Peace Fanfare' by New Zealand composer Dorothy Buchanan
This special performance is part of the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra's 60th anniversary International Series. Conducted by Umberto Clerici, the event also marks the 100-year milestone of the University of Otago School of Music. The program is anchored by Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, featuring a trio of soloists—Tessa Petersen, Heleen du Plessis, and Terence Dennis—who are all members of the university's music faculty.

In addition to the Beethoven concerto, the orchestra performs Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and a work by New Zealand composer Dorothy Buchanan titled 'Peace Fanfare.' The latter piece incorporates a log drum solo to bring Pacific sounds into the concert hall. The evening is designed to showcase the brass section and the collaborative spirit between the visiting conductor and local professional musicians.

The concert takes place at the Dunedin Town Hall on August 1. A free pre-concert educational talk hosted by Dr. Andrew Perkins is available to ticket holders in the complex prior to the main performance.
