Black Market

The public screening of the Nollywood crime thriller "Black Market" took place on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, Nigeria. Organized by Rixel Studios in collaboration with Filmone Studios, Signet Ring Studios, and Switch Visuals Production, the event successfully surpassed the previous Guinness World Record for the largest film screening in a single location. It attracted over 51,000 qualifying viewers, exceeding the target of 50,000 and the prior record of 43,624 attendees set in 2015.

The film "Black Market" was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and co-written by Gimsay and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed. Shot in Abeokuta, Nigeria, its cast includes Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, and Uzor Arukwe, among others. The narrative follows five market women involved in a high-stakes cross-border smuggling operation.

Beyond the film screening, the event featured additional entertainment activities such as music, food, and games. The large-scale screening received support from the Lagos State Government and its Ministry of Culture, along with corporate partners like MTN, Puma, Oraimo, and Shuttlers. This achievement is considered a significant milestone for Nigerian entertainment and Nollywood's global presence, aiming to boost cinematic culture and investor confidence in the industry.
