2026 Kuala Terengganu Merdeka Parade

The 69th National Day celebrations in Terengganu commenced on the night of August 30 at Dataran Muara Utara. The evening included a formal flag-raising ceremony led by the Royal Malaysian Navy Volunteer Reserve and a countdown culminating in a midnight fireworks display. The event was attended by members of the Terengganu royal family and Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

On the morning of August 31, a massive parade featuring approximately 3,500 participants followed a route from Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah to Dataran Utama Shahbandar. Highlights of the morning included aerial flypasts by Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighter jets and various military aircraft. A notable moment occurred when participants paused their march to greet local preacher Ustaz Azhar Idrus, a recurring tradition for the state's Merdeka celebrations.

The parade was marked by a minor accident near Wisma Persekutuan involving a three-year-old spectator. The child was injured when his foot was accidentally run over by a vehicle towing a fire department boat. While he was rushed to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital by ambulance, medical assessments confirmed he sustained no bone fractures and remained under observation.
