Malaysia Day celebrations

The national-level celebration of Malaysia Day in 2026 marks the anniversary of the nation's formation, with Kuching serving as the host city. Under the theme "Warisan Dalam Perpaduan," the event brings together top federal and state leaders for a formal ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching. While earlier plans included broader public gatherings, the Cabinet moved all activities indoors to BCCK due to concerning haze levels in the Kuching and Serian districts.

The main program at BCCK includes the signing of the Malaysia Day Special Book, a collective recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge, and a series of cultural performances. Approximately 5,000 invited guests, including the Sarawak Governor and the Prime Minister, are expected to attend the evening ceremony, which features theatrical productions highlighting Malaysia's diverse cultural legacy.

Associated events occur throughout the city, including a historical exhibition at Plaza Merdeka featuring accounts from military and police veterans. Separate thanksgiving services are also scheduled at Masjid Jamek and the Pullman Hotel to accommodate various religious communities. To mark the 2026 occasion, a limited-edition commemorative coin and enamel pin featuring the mythical Nabau serpent have been released through a collaboration with the Department of Museums Malaysia.
