The Festival de las Ánimas in Puerto Vallarta, known locally as 'La Orilla de las Ánimas' (The Shore of the Souls), is a unique seaside interpretation of Día de Muertos traditions. This year marks the first time more than eleven municipalities across Jalisco will coordinate their Día de Muertos activities under one statewide festival banner, giving visitors varied experiences throughout the region. The festival is organized by the Jalisco State Entertainment Agency and the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat.

In Puerto Vallarta, the local program embraces the city's connection to the ocean and fishing, incorporating Banderas Bay into the celebration. Plans include around 28 activities such as displays of Catrinas, traditional ofrendas, and cultural performances, with nighttime events set against the bay. The popular monumental Catrina, a familiar sight in Puerto Vallarta's Día de Muertos festivities, is expected to return as a central feature. While the specific schedule for Puerto Vallarta's activities is yet to be released, the overarching aim is to showcase diverse Mexican traditions and promote tourism by encouraging longer stays to explore various participating destinations.
