Established in 2018, the Sagsai Golden Eagle Festival aims to preserve the significant Kazakh eagle hunting culture of the Altai region, where over 80 active eagle hunters reside. The event is organized by the Sagsai Eagle Hunter Association, maintaining a strong connection to local communities.

The festival grounds are designed to harmonize with the natural environment. Spectators gather in an open semi-circular viewing area where they can watch performances against a backdrop of mountains and open terrain, as modern infrastructure is intentionally positioned away from the primary viewing area.

A memorable highlight is the opening ceremony, where nearly a hundred eagle hunters on horseback emerge from the surrounding mountains, carrying golden eagles on their arms, before forming a large circle. The core of the festival involves diverse eagle hunting competitions that showcase horsemanship, eagle handling, speed, and the deep bond between hunter and bird. One notable competition involves releasing an eagle from a distant mountain ridge to its hunter waiting on horseback below.
