Léiffrawëschdag

Léiffrawëschdag is a historic harvest festival celebrated in the village of Greiveldange, tracing its origins back to a 17th-century tradition. Originally, villagers assembled bouquets of herbs and flowers to honor the dead and placed them in stables to protect livestock from illness. While the practice faded over time, it was officially reintroduced to the village's cultural calendar in 1985.

The centerpiece of the festival is the 'Wësch,' a bouquet traditionally composed of approximately 30 different herbs, supplemented with wheat, root vegetables, and onions. During the celebration, these bouquets are taken to the local church to be blessed. Following the service, participants take them home to hang for the duration of the year as a symbol of protection and tradition.

In recognition of its deep roots in local history, Léiffrawëschdag was added to Luxembourg's national inventory of intangible cultural heritage in 2020. The event also maintains a charitable component, as proceeds generated from the bouquets are donated to various philanthropic causes.
